As outrage brews over Mustafizur’s IPL deal, Kohli and Rohit’s Bangladesh tour confirmation adds fuel to an already raging fire.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is such a big event that any incident happening around it becomes news. It became a controversial moment when KKR successfully bid for the left-arm pacer from Bangladesh- Mustafizur Rahman. The franchise bought him for 9.2 crore, surpassing both CSK and Delhi Capitals. However, the problem started after the auction was over.
At the core of this outrage was the brutal incident that occurred in Bangladesh on 18th December, 2025. A hindu garment seller Dipu Chandra Das was brutally lynched to death. For obvious reasons it caused public outrage towards Bangladesh in India. Additionally, there has been political unrest in the country. After the heartbreaking incident, several political and religious leaders in India have been vocal. In that continuation, Mustafizur’s purchase just gave wings to the fire. Netizens also criticized the owner and bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan by calling him a traitor. Amidst this itchy moment, India’s tour to Bangladesh for three ODIs and five T20Is has been confirmed. This tour will also include the legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Fans are happy that they will get to see their favourite stars in action again, but many showed a sore heart towards this series.
BCCI Faces Scrutiny for Not Managing Virat, Rohit, and Ashwin Well
Besides the KKR-Mustafizur controversy, BCCI faced heavy criticism by fans and cricketers. Former English cricketer Monty Panesar said that the Indian Cricket Board did not do justice to players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and R Ashwin. He further said that the BCCI could have shown more honour to these stars as they deserved better farewell games in Test.
After the retirement of Virat, Rohit, and Ashwin, there has been a subtle outrage among fans. The management has also been under scrutiny for not providing a respectable retirement to these legends. Panesar’s words just underlined the problem. The left-arm spinner compared the English Cricket System with this situation. While talking to Indo Asian News Service (IANS), he said that in England, players get proper farewell matches to celebrate their contributions to the country and cricket.
Notably, Virat and Rohit retired from Test Cricket in May last year. Whereas, the star Indian off-spinner R Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of the game in the third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December 2024. Needless to say that these three have been the strongest pillars of the Indian team across formats. Their sudden departure seeped bitter seeds among fans’ hearts.
These incidents have pulled massive criticism towards the BCCI and the management. India’s recent test campaigns have failed, especially losing series at home led netizens calling out the board and the current coaching staff.
