While Root and Smith Conquer Tests, Kohli Chose the Easy Way Out?” — Manjarekar Sparks Massive Debate
Sanjay Manjarekar has continuously been vocal with his thoughts on modern cricketers, often in a strong tone. This time, he spoke about Virat Kohli and his retirement from test cricket. In a video shared through his social media account the former Indian batsman Sanjay showed his disappointment. He criticized Kohli for walking out from Test format while his contemporaries like Joe Root and Steve Smith are flourishing in red-ball games.
The English star batter Joe Root just scored his 41st Test century, which shows that he is in sublime touch. His continuous extraordinary innings are inching him closer to the ultimate record, the great Sachin Tendulkar. Besides him, Steve Smith is also back in form and has been delivering for Australia, especially in white jersey. Similarly, Kane Williamson is serving New Zealand in test format with brilliance. Notably, Virat Kohli and these three were called fab four in international cricket for their likewise batting style and talent. But, Kohli is the only one of the club who has exited from this format.
He Chose the Easiest Format

Sanjay Manjarekar emphasized that Kohli should not have left this particular format. He points out that Kohli’s fitness is still top-notch and he could have easily played for longer time. The former Indian opener said that Joe Root’s century brought his mind to Virat Kohli. Further, Sanjay also said that Kohli has chosen the easiest format to continue with. According to him, the ODI format is the easiest one for a top-order batsman, that too for a talent like Virat. He didn’t quite put his heart and soul into finding out the problems as to why he was averaging 31 for five years in tests, Manjarekar said. He stressed that retiring from all formats of cricket could have been justified, but his selective move is not appreciable.

India Misses Kohli in Test
People are reacting to the video with different approaches and opinions. But, his words clearly showed the pain of an Indian cricket fan. There is no doubt that Kohli is one of the greatest to play this game. But, his sudden retirement from test format, that too, after a long lean phase, was not welcomed by many fans.
Kohli was one who provided stability and strength to the Indian middle order. He filled the giant shoes of Sachin Tendulkar at number 4 position. Especially when India is going through a shabby path in test cricket, fans miss the aura of Virat Kohli. While Joe Root or Smith attain new heights in test format, the comparison is reignited. Whereas, fans are left with nothing but a saddened heart that their star has exited too early from the purest form of cricket.
