India Wins, But the Void Remains: As Kohli’s Absence Hurts on the Field, the BCCI Pushes the Legend Down the Ladder
In the recent past, the Indian team has been phenomenal and the most successful side in the T20Is, including the World Cup victory in 2024. With the contribution of destructive batters like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav, Shivam Dubey, and Rinku Singh, the men in blue have been ruling the format. However, fans automatically miss Virat Kohli when it comes to providing stability during middle overs on a tough track. One such example was seen in the first game of World Cup 2026 against the USA.

With Indian batting first powered by a deadly batting order, everybody expected that it was going to be a high scoring match. On the contrary, an unexpected collapse occurred. An inexperienced bowling unit of the USA was able to dismantle the top order. No batter was able to create any significant impact besides the skipper Surya. At this moment, fans remembered Virat Kohli and his consistency at number 3 in white ball cricket.
Recently, India has adopted a very aggressive approach towards batting which has earned them success mostly. But, in crucial games, a reliable batsman becomes inevitable. And when you talk about reliability, no name comes even closer to Virat Kohli in modern-day cricket, especially in ODIs and T20Is. His iconic inning against Pakistan in Melbourne is still fresh in fans’ memory. That on-the-rise uppish straight six against Harrish Rauf was captured as the Shot of an Emperor.

Kohli took the team beyond the finish line so many times from almost impossible situations. Therefore, fans and experts still miss him in the batting order in T2oIs. The 37-year old batting legend bid adieu to T20 internationals after the World Cup victory in 2024, but his importance is still the hottest topic among netizens.

BCCI Demotes Kohli in New Central Contract
Meanwhile cricket fans were missing Virat Kohli at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday evening, the BCCI took a call to demote seniors like Virat and Rohit from A+ category. The board announced their latest central contracts and it marked the end of an era for these two legends. As per the contract, the two stalwarts of Indian Cricket have been moved to group B category. This change was largely concerned about their playing status. Both legends have stepped away from their services in Test and T20I formats, and are active in ODIs only. However, their recent contributions in ODI did not warrant a place in the topmost category.

As per the latest contracts, only Shubhman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah are in the A+ category. According to the BCCI, this decision was taken to promote all-format association of players and reward their multi-format services.

At the same time, it did not appear as a very fine taste to fans, as Jadeja is also not an all-format player. The all-rounder is not active in T20Is anymore as well as his recent performance in ODIs have not been great. Considering this, netizens saw this decision as side-cornering of seniors like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Additionally, the relationship between these two and Agarkar-Gambhir management is not the best one clearly. However, the BCCI has openly slammed such thoughts. The chief Devajit Saikia stated that the management and these two icons have a cordial relationship.
